The Jets came into week 9 on a 3 game skid and was 1 and 6 on the season. They was in a desperate need for a win. Haskins hadn’t looked that great on the season having thrown 33 interceptions through the first 8 weeks. The defense hadn’t looked that great either giving up 33 points a game when the offense was only averaging 21 points a game. In week 9 on a short week Coach Duran had them get extra preparation over rest. It must have paid off because in the week nine game against the bills it was a dominate performance. The Jets’ offense had a game plan. To help Haskins they planned to run the ball. This game they ran the ball extremely well. They was able to run the ball for 248 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. Guice was the work horse this game with 20 rushes for 188 yards and 4 of those touchdowns. He might have had more if Coach Duran had not benched him in the 4th quarter where Smith would come bet another 14 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown. With the rushing game being so effective it made Haskins be able to finally have some time. Haskins only had to throw the ball 9 times in which he was able to complete all of them for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns. He connected with Watkins for a 66 yard touchdown when he was able to catch the Bill defense in an all-out blitz leaving him wide open. The Jets defense also looked impressive. A defense that has given up an average of 100 yards a game in the 7 games played locked down Beverly this game after giving up 100 yards to him in week 2. Beverly carried the ball 10 times for -3 yards. Making it to where it was all on Allen in the passing game. Allen was able to pass for 222 yards but had 0 touchdowns and 5 interceptions due to the defense playing so well. FS Davis returned 1 of his 2 for a pick six. The defense also was able to sack Allen twice. We talked to Coach Duran about this blow out of a game and he said “I’m not sure why we are so inconsistent but we have got to change that. We need consistency and we need it fast.”
